Malibu Fire Recovery

Rebuilding Malibu's Coastal Homes

Malibu rebuilds carry an extra layer — the California Coastal Commission. We navigate both the fire rebuild process and coastal permitting, so you don't have to figure it out alone.

The Malibu Difference

Two Permitting Tracks, One Team

Every other LA fire-rebuild area deals with one permitting authority. Malibu deals with two — the City of Malibu and the California Coastal Commission. That adds complexity, but it doesn't have to add chaos.

Coastal Commission Requirements

For fire rebuilds, the Coastal Commission offers expedited pathways — but you have to understand the rules to qualify:

  • Like-for-like rebuilds in the original footprint can qualify for an expedited coastal permit
  • Fire rebuilds in Malibu are generally exempt from CEQA environmental review
  • Wastewater systems can often be replaced within the original footprint
  • Larger redesigns require a full Coastal Development Permit and a longer timeline

Coastal Construction Expertise

Building on the Malibu coast means salt air, marine exposure, and specific foundation considerations. Our builds account for:

  • Marine-grade exterior materials and hardware
  • Corrosion-resistant framing connectors for salt air
  • Materials meeting both fire-zone and coastal requirements
  • Foundation engineering for coastal soil conditions
  • Defensible space that satisfies fire and coastal landscaping rules
  • High-end finishes appropriate to Malibu homes
